Ruth Elaine Myers (1933-2010)
Ruth Elaine Myers, age 76, of Eddyville, formerly of Chillicothe, died March 2, 2010 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
She was born May 15, 1933 in Ottumwa Hospital to James Arthur and Wanda Alice (Shilling) Hendricks. She grew up and attended school in Chillicothe, before moving to Eddyville later in life.
Ruth married George R. Myers on July 19, 1952 in Chillicothe. George passed away on March 19, 1990. Ruth was a homemaker and a mother all of her life.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe before the church closed and she became a member of Eddyville’s church. Ruth was also a member of Rebecca Circle. She enjoyed quilting, genealogy, being outdoors, and flower gardening. Ruth loved spending time with her family, especially anything to do with her grandchildren’s sports and band concerts.
Ruth is survived by her children Kathryn (Dan) Chambers of Eddyville, George Allen (Shelley) Myers of Albia, Judith Peterson of Eddyville, and Wanda (Mike) Stephanie of Eddyville; a nephew David Hendricks. Ruth is also survived by 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Hendricks and Gary Hendricks; and one sister Shirley Glandon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Wanda; her husband, George; one grandchild, one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mildred.
Visitation was held Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday evening.
Funeral Services will be Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10 a.m., at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel with Reverend Brian Harris officiating. Burial will be at the Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe.
An open memorial has been established.

Sister Marcia Kearney (1923-2010)
Sister Marcia Kearney, (Sister Mary Marcia), 86, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Visitation at Bishop Drumm Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Johnston, was from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Our Lady of Peace Chapel. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Albia. Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines is assisting with arrangements. There will be a Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 7 p.m. at the Humility of Mary Center, Magnificat Chapel, 820 W. Central Park Ave., in Davenport.
Mary Katherine Kearney was born on Aug. 18, 1923 in Weller, a daughter of Patrick Edward and Rose Agnes (Keegan) Kearney. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on Jan. 6, 1950, and professed vows on July 19, 1952. She attended Ottumwa Heights College, Ottumwa. She spent her life in service of others. For 12 years she was a housemother for teenage boys at St. Vincent Home, Davenport. For several years she cared for an infant in Keokuk. Her prayers were credited with saving the life of one baby girl who grew up to become a doctor. Sr. Marcia cooked and made a home for her sisters at St. Henry and St. Mary Convents, Marshalltown, and St. Pius Convent, Rock Island, Ill. She was the manager of Kitchen and Food Service at St. Vincent Center serving priests and bishops for 14 years. She returned to Humility of Mary Center, Davenport, in 1995 and moved to Bishop Drumm Center in 2006.
Sister Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Thomas, Cyril, Bernard, Gerald, John, Bill, Vince (Mike), Pat (Eddie) and Dan.
She is survived by sisters, Marcella Kearney, Keokuk, and Donna Halbur (LeRoy), Santa Rosa, Calif.; brothers Cecil (Vera), Albia, and Paul, Laguna Niguel, Calif.; 14 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the many men she mothered as young boys and by the sisters and associates of her religious community.
