The city of Albia will have a new councilman following Tuesday’s election. Scott Kelly defeated incumbent Andrew Coe 51-17 for the Ward 3 council position. It was the only contested race in Albia.

Richard Clark was elected Albia mayor with 153 votes. Dennis Conley won the at large seat with 143 votes and Bryon Stilley won in an uncontested Ward 1 race with 34 votes.

The Monroe County Board of Supervisors next Tuesday will choose by lottery the fifth member of the Melrose City Council. Clifford Savage received 16 votes, Kristi Rush received 13 votes, Bernie Sherman received five write-in votes and Clint Poe received three write-ins for four of the five seats. Christie Judge, Samuel Shetler, Blake Lawless and Toni Murphy received two votes each.

Supervisors will draw a name out of a hat for the fifth seat.

Cody Ryan received 11 votes to be elected Melrose mayor.

In a contested Lovilia city council race, Brian Brown received 34 votes and Josh Pettyjohn 33 to win the two seats open. Justin Lang picked up 22 votes. Patrick Gilbert was elected Lovilia mayor with 45 votes.
