The Albia Community High School Individual Speech team earned Division I ratings in 11 of the 18 events they took to the district competition at Grinnell High School last weekend.
Bradley Amante, a senior, and Tayler Sample, a junior, led the way with two I ratings. Amante scored I ratings in Improvisational Speaking and After Dinner Speaking. Sample scored I ratings in Musical Theatre and Poetry.
Other I ratings came from seniors Bradley Yenger in Original Oratory; Ash Pickens in Acting; Nika Spaur in Musical Theatre; Cole Folkerts in Musical Theatre; Valerie Beary in Acting; junior Ethan Drake in Poetry; and freshman Hanna Anderson in Musical Theatre.
Students competing and receiving II ratings included Pickens in Improvisational Speaking; Drake in Improv; freshman Sarah Matt in Acting and Musical Theatre; freshman Olivia Hopkins in Storytelling; Freshman Emma Hopkins in Improv and freshman Gavin Archer in Improv.
The Division I rated students will compete in state competition on Saturday, March 9 at North Scott High School.
