“Grant’s Best Chef Contest” was held at Grant Elementary in Albia from a Delta Dental grant that Nurse Karen McCarty and Coach Justin Huber had worked on to obtain a water filling station at Grant school.
One student’s recipe was picked from each second grade classroom by Food Service Director Chris Wyatt. Each of these students made their snack recipe in front of a panel of judges. The judges were Superintendent Kevin Crall, Grant Principal Billy Strickler, retired Central Administration Secretary Lana Kaldenberg, “I Smile” Coordinator Melissa Woodhous, and Hy-Vee dietitian Taylor Grgurich.
The students selected were Kinsley Henderson, Kate DeMoss, Gabe Draughn and the winner was Lelani DeForest. Each student received a prize that included Monroe County Aquatic Center passes.
