Mike Haluska, a 2007 graduate of Albia Community High School, was named Class 2A Don Taft Iowa High School Football Coaches Association Junior High Football Coach of the Year.

Haluska, who played on Coach Gary Gravert’s 2006 state qualifying football team and the 2007 ACHS state tournament basketball team coached by Kevin Archer, played a year of football at Central College before transferring to Iowa State University where he earned his degree. He works for Cargill in Eddyville.

He and his wife, Sarah, live in Albia.

Haluska began coaching Albia junior high football as an assistant in 2011. He became head seventh grade coach in 2014 and moved up to eighth grade in 2017. His record as a head junior high coach is 18-5.

Haluska received the award at the Class 2A championship game at the UNI-Dome. He was accompanied by Albia varsity co-head coaches Scott Farrington and Justin Huber. Haluska played football throughout his junior high and high school years with Coach Huber and was coached by then assistant Coach Farrington.
