First Iowa State Bank in Albia again hosted a free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day at the Leisure Lounge in Albia. The first dinner was held in 1992 by Larry and Carol Beronich-Jones in honor of their son, Kenny, who was killed in a car accident. This year marked the 27th year for the Free Christmas Dinner.
As with the first dinner in 1992, volunteers helped in the preparation, serving and delivery of dinners.
How many dinners were served? With so many involved, it is difficult to get an accurate count. Loren Pence thought 150 to 160 home delivered meals and with 40 to 50 eating at the lounge. He knew for sure they had eaten thirty turkeys and all the trimmings. It was delicious and certainly appreciated by the many who came to share their Christmas day with friends.
