The Albia Community High School FFA Chapter was well represented at the 91st Iowa FFA State Convention. The convention was held April 14-16 in Ames. Members of the Albia FFA attending included:  Abby Peterson, Becca Pistek, Lauren Kaldenberg, Collette Teno, Maizie Reed, Stephanie Beary, Ellie Cloyed, Halle Hindman, McKenna Striegel, Curtis Clark, Logan Rozenboom, Nick Heffron, Jer McAninch, and Joe Beary.  They were joined by FFA Advisor Daryl Schofield and chaperone Christine Wilson.

The chapter members left for Ames on Sunday, April 14.  On the first day, members assisted career show exhibitors in getting their displays hauled into the Scheman Building and even helped a few set up their displays.  “I believe that this is the 10th year that we have been helping with the display set up on Sunday afternoon. It is a great service opportunity for our members,” commented Schofield. Members also used part of the afternoon to set up our chapter display for judging.

Several members competed in events on Monday. Lauren Kaldenberg received a Gold rating and fifth place finish in the Secretary’s Book event. Curtis Clark finished with a Silver rating in the Treasurer’s book event. Becca Pistek wound up with a Gold rating with her Reporter’s Scrapbook and finished in second place. The Chapter Display received a Gold rating and brought home first place honors. The members who worked on the display were Jer McAninch, Abby Peterson, Maizie Reed, Logan Rozenboom, and Nathan Crall who was unable to attend convention.

Lauren Kaldenberg began practice for the State FFA Band during the afternoon.  Abby Peterson and Collette Teno served as the official delegates during the Business Session on Monday as well.

Tuesday found more competition for the Albia members. McKenna Striegel, Halle Hindman and Nick Heffron competed in the Poultry Evaluation event. The poultry team received a Silver rating. Ellie Cloyed and Stephanie Beary competed in Greenhand Quiz. Cloyed placed fifth and received a Gold rating and Beary received a Gold rating finishing just one point out of the top 10. Joe Beary also competed in Ag Discussion Meet and received a Gold rating.
