Russ Parker of rural Lovilia was honored by National Association of Farm Broadcasters at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) convention. Parker who has worked with J.L. Farmakis in sales and marketing for the past four decades and is part-owner of Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network based in Des Moines, received the 2019 Dix Harper Meritorious Service Award.
The award is presented to an Allied Industry Council or Management and Sales Council member who has demonstrated exemplary and committed service to NAFB. It was first presented in 1957 to Charlie Karr a sales promotion manager for Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. based in Milwaukee, Wisc. The award was renamed in 2006 to honor longtime member, leader and historian Dix Harper.
Parker, his wife, Vicki, and family moved to Monroe County on the north side of Lake Miami about 15 years ago from Mount Vernon. They are active at Trinity United Methodist Church and Parker is a staple in the music community in Albia, singing with the Albia Community Choir, performing in the Restoration Days Follies and serving as the lead singer for Trinity’s worship band.
He is also a gearhead, bringing any one of his classic Chevy (1954, 1956 or 1958) cars to the annual Albia Rodder’s car show in June. Parker is an avid hunter and fisherman.
