The Veteran’s Administration has become aware of a telephone scam that seeks to steal veteran’s credit card information.

The scam uses a telephone number set up to “mimic” the Veteran’s Choice Program (VCP). The VA believes the imposter phone line may be intended to reach veterans who inadvertently dial the VCP number incorrectly.

The correct VCP number is 1-866-606-8198. However, veterans have called 1-800-606-8198. A person will answer an offer a caller a $100 rebate if the caller provides a credit card. The person answering the call does not state the veteran has reached the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the VCP phone line.

The VA warns veterans to immediately hang up and call the “866” pre-fix. A real VCP representative will not offer any sort of rebate or ask for a credit card number.
