A community forum on teenage mental health first scheduled in November, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
The forum is being sponsored by the Albia Community School District, Monroe County Ministerial Association and Monroe County Hospital and Clinics.
The forum features Dr. Jeff Kerber, a Clinical Administrator for UnityPoint Health, a Des Moines counseling and psychiatry service. A practicing clinician since 1995, Dr. Kerber has spent the majority of his professional work with children, teens and their families.
Dr. Kerber will be sharing information to educate and support parents as they support their children and other youth in the community.
The focus of the one-hour presentation, including ample time for questions and answers, is to briefly put into perspective the mental health challenges of today’s youth and how parents and other caring adults can effectively respond. The goal is to become more confident in recognizing serious mental health problems and more resilient in community response.
“We can and must get our kids the help they need sooner rather than later,” said Dr. Kerber.
The public is invited to attend.
