Monroe County Sheriff

A Centerville man was life flighted to Des Moines after losing control of his motorcycle on the north side of “Hocking Hill,” three miles south of Albia on Saturday.

According to a Monroe County Sheriff’s reported, Bill Lee, 66, was traveling north on Highway Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Witnesses to the accident said they saw Lee slow down, pulling over to the shoulder, the bike went airborne and flipped about five times, ejecting Lee from the bike. He was wearing a helmet.

Monroe County Deputy Sheriff Scott Dunning was the first law enforcement officer on the scene. The Mercy life flight helicopter was called and it landed in the middle of Highway 5 backing up traffic both ways for almost a half hour.

Officer Dunning reported that there were no apparent environmental factors causing the accident. The weather was clear and the roadway dry. Lee was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. There has been no report on his condition.

The motorcyle was considered a total loss.
