Next week the Albia Hy-Vee is doing a round up at the register. Customers can round their total up to the nearest dollar and all of it goes to the King Opera House. They can also have a bigger donation added to their total on the spot.
Thursday, May 2 from 4-7:00 p.m. Hy-Vee is grilling hamburgers and hot dogs in front of the store with all proceeds going to the King Opera House renovation project.
Things are happening
Just so folks know, things are moving rapidly with Phase I of the King Opera House renovation. People will see a couple of things in the next two or three weeks. First an architect hired by Albia Area Improvement will be in Albia next Thursday to begin measurements for the re-design of the front of the building. That design will include an arched entrance and window re-design to match the original 1903 front.
Secondly, the theater’s old marquee will be coming down, very likely piece by piece. Finally, the white porcelain bricks will be peeled off the front of the building, exposing the red brick that will be tied into the new red brick on the front.
