Bruce Allyn Thompson, age 69, of Moravia, formerly of Albia, died on July 9, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville at 12:50 p.m., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 18, 1948 to George and Helen (Lukens) Thompson in Salem, Mo. He married Patty O’Neill on June 8, 1985. He volunteered for years at the nursing home playing karaoke. He enjoyed camping, boating and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He never met a stranger, and he was always there for a helping hand for anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife Patty of Moravia; children, Keith (Angela) Thompson of Hamilton, Darwin (Michelle) Thompson of Albia, Jennifer (Tracy) Warren of Grafenwoehr, Germany; five grandchildren, Trevor Thompson, Shelby Warren, Bode Thompson, Cassidy Thompson and Ryder Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings, Glenys McElroy of Ottumwa, Gary Van Ness of Reno, Bion Thompson of Albia, Darrell (Kathy) Thompson of Fremont and Benji (Betty) Thompson of Avery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Thompson, brother-in-law, Leo McElroy; mother and father-in-law, James and Monica O’Neill; and nephew, Kevin O’Neill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mike Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, opening to the public at 1 p.m., and Bruce’s family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Homes.
