Shirley Bain, age, 81 of Albia, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at home under the care of HCI Hospice.

Shirley was born on June 15, 1936, to Harry and Mildred (Johnson) Nace in Farson. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and then went on to obtain a business degree at Ottumwa Heights. On March 17, 1973, she was united in marriage to John Frederick Bain Sr., at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Albia. To this union, a child was born, John Jr. Shirley and John Sr. shared over 40 years of marriage together prior to his passing on Jan. 12, 2017.

Shirley worked at John Morrell’s in the purchasing department for 18 ½ years. She then worked for Green Thumb doing interviews for job placement before retiring in 2000. Shirley was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and watching television game shows, such as The Price is Right. She enjoyed doing crosswords and word searches and loved to watch Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball.

Shirley is survived by her son, John Jr. (Karen) Bain and two grandchildren, Sylvia and Sophie Bain, all of Lovilia; a brother, Larry Nace; a sister-in-law, Vi Nace; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mildred; her husband, John Sr.; and four brothers, Harold, Bill, Richard and Ron.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will follow the service at Service Chapel Cemetery in rural Albia.

Visitation will begin at noon until the time of service on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Shirley’s family present to greet family and friends.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
