Charlie "Junior" Large, age 85 of Albia, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family members.

Charlie was born in Coal City on May 1, 1932, the son of Alfred and Lena (Marvin) Large. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, and was stationed in Germany. Charlie was united in marriage to Avis Kennis in 1953. Together, the couple relocated to Newton, where Charlie worked for Maytag for 30 years. Avis preceded Charlie in death.

Charlie married Diana Bakalar in 1979. The couple moved to Albia in 1989 and spent many wonderful years together.

In his free time, Charlie possessed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, playing bingo, playing cards, feeding his pet fish, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his five children, Christy (Charles) Trullinger, Sue Valentine, David Large, Corey (Angie) Bakalar, and Rod Bakalar; nine grandchildren, Charles and Gary Trullinger, Aaron (Kim) Valentine, Dawn (Kendal) Madsen, Jennifer (Ryan) Wood, Ryan Large, Roxanne (JT) Landgrebe, Tristan Bakalar, and Katelyn Bakalar; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy (Jim) Seddon, Mary (George) Eddy, and Pam Seals; and a brother, Milton (Peggy) Garr.

Charlie was preceded in death by his two wives, Avis and Diana; his parents; three sisters, Olive Thompson, Marceline Hogg, and Joan Carolyn Aldrich; and two brothers, Courtland Garr and Michael Garr.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial with military rites followed in the Hilltown Cemetery, near Moulton. A visitation took place on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials have been established to HCI Hospice Care Services and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Ia. 52544.
