Shirley Rogers-Leahy

Shirley A. Rogers-Leahy, age 83, of Iowa City, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at her daughter’s residence in Iowa City, under the care of Iowa City Hospice. She was born on Jan. 12, 1936 to Seth (Pat) and Isabelle (Reeves) Rogers.

Shirley graduated from Albia High School, class of 1954, and then graduated from St. Ambrose School of Nursing in Davenport. She married William Thomas Leahy. William died on Nov. 20, 2000.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, birdwatching, nature drives, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her children, Sharon Leahy of Cresskill, N.J., Melanie (Michael) Radice of Stockholm, N.J., Stacey (Julius) Oppenheim of Fort Lee, N.J., Kelly (Robert) McLean of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren, Randy, Nicole, Jamie, Lindsey, Tyla, Kali, Mikey, Shay, Daekaree, Jada, Dorian, Sethy; five great-grandchildren, Ryder, Ella, Xavier, Tyler, Dylan; siblings, Kathryn Griffin of Minnesota, Ben Rogers of Illinois, Tisha Sinnott of Albia, Pat D. (Ann) Rogers of Florida, and sisters-in-law, Judy Rogers, Darlene Rogers, and countless beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Isabelle Rogers; siblings, Michael, Bill, Freddie, Clara Louise, and Dick Rogers; brothers-in-law, Ed Griffin, Steve Sinnott; sister-in-law, Donna Rogers; and nephew, Leo Sinnott.

A Time of Celebration will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, opening to the public at 1 p.m., and Shirley’s family will be present to greet friends from 4-7 p.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a prayer service held by Father Michael Volkmer, C.PPS. at 6 p.m., Friday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
