Madonna Maude Hugen, age 80, of Hamilton, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. Donna was born Aug. 4, 1938 to James and Maude (Gustin) Cooper. She married Donnis Lyle Hugen Oct. 20, 1957 at the United Brethren Church in Albia.
Donna was active in city council, United Methodist Women, Farm Bureau and the Legion Auxiliary. She loved going to Bussey to play bingo. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially loved baseball/softball season. She enjoyed reading a good book and letting the great-grandkids “beat” her in board games. Donna loved to bake, she was known for her pies and noodles.
Visitation for Donna was held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, beginning at 2 p.m., at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Donna’s family was present to greet friends and relatives from 3-6 p.m. A funeral service was held at the Bussey United Methodist Church on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Burial services followed at the Hamilton Cemetery.
Donna is survived by her four children, David Hugen of Hamilton, Cindy Hugen of Knoxville, Carla (Bruce) Pettyjohn of Hamilton, and Brad (Joy) Hugen of Knoxville; lots of nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Kay Griffith; her grandchildren, Jeremy Pettyjohn, Jessica (Jared Nichols) Pettyjohn, James (Chelsie) Pettyjohn, Eric Hugen, Adam (Katey) Hugen, Katie (Dustin) Blaine, and Matthew Smith; and great-grandchildren, Zoe-Jayn, Cooper, Blayke, Carly, Brady, Jordan and Phoeby.
Madonna is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Hugen; her parents James and Maude Cooper; and siblings, Alwilda, James, Ardery, Robert, Betty and Bonnie.
Memorials may be given in Donna’s memory to the Bussey Little League.
