Dennis Keith Underwood (1946-2019)

Dennis Keith Underwood, age 73, of Moravia, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019 at his home.

Dennis Keith Underwood, son of Ernest and Helen (Johnson) Underwood was born on April 17, 1946 at home in Monroe County. He was united in marriage to Linda Stapp on Sept. 2, 1967. To this union, three children were born, Teresa, Troy and Toby.

Dennis was a member of the Moravia Masonic Lodge for many years. He was also very active with the Moravia Athletics. He sponsored the Cribbage Tournament at the Moravia Fall Festival and Fish Fry for the “M” Club. He was part of the football “Chain Gang” for 17 years.

Dennis lived in Moravia most of his life, where he was the barber and provided several “Denny Do’s”. In his spare time, he enjoyed anything that involved hunting, fishing and passing on his knowledge and skill of the outdoors. He loved watching the Moravia Mohawks, Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and the Chicago Cubs.

Left to honor Dennis’ memory are his wife, Linda Underwood of Moravia; his children, Teresa (Harold) Rowley of Moravia, Troy (Jackie) Underwood of Albia, and Toby Underwood of Moravia; his grandchildren, JoAnne (David) Isley, Scott (Amber) Rowley, Victoria (Bill) Ogier, Keith, Cheyenne Rowley, Tyler, Tommy Joe, Cody, Austin, Kyle Underwood, Desiree (Cody) Carlson, Macy, and Carson Underwood; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Carter, Hannah Isley, Tyler, Myrissa, Brody, Emerson Rowley, Stella, Norah Ogier, Tucker Underwood and Wenry Carlson; two brothers, Ronnie (Cindy) Underwood of Albia; Gary (Jane) Underwood of Blakesburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen Underwood; his stepfather, John Querrey; one sister, Phyllis Rowley; and one brother, Kenny Allen Underwood.

According to wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to either the Moravia School Athletic Department, or to the Moravia First Responders, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Ia. 52544.
