Marilyn “Joyce” Gladson, age 71, of Albia, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.

Joyce was born on July 28, 1945, to Francis and Sylvia (Kellogg) Gragg in Albia. She grew up and graduated from Albia High School. On April 4, 1963 she was united in marriage to Don Gladson. To this union four children were born, Deanna, Donna, Doris and Todd. Joyce and Don shared 54 years of marriage together.

In her younger years, Joyce was a leader for the Little Brownies. She was a homemaker for most of her life. After her children were grown she traveled with Don helping him with the secretary work for Cunningham and Reis. She was known for keeping a very clean house. She was an excellent cook and loved making food for the holidays such as her Christmas cookies and Turkey. Joyce enjoyed cross stitching, collecting bells, unicorns, and Indians. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially spoiling her grandchildren with cookies, cheese and ice cream.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Don Gladson of Albia; her children, Donna (David) VanEe of Leighton, Doris Gladson of Albia and Todd (Jessica) Gladson of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, Bradley (Amanda), Julie, Mackenzie and Hailey. She is also survived by a brother, Carl Gragg; and a sister, Lois Musgrove.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Sylvia; a daughter, Deanna Kay Gladson; and a brother, Francis Gragg Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Elder Lois Behrens officiating. Burial followed services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
