It seems like many times over the last few years I have talked to you about mass shootings that are happening in our nation and this week we have seen it happen again in El Paso and Dayton.
But rather than labor the point, I am going to say what I have said before. The problem in our nation is spiritual. We have hearts and minds filled with hate. Granted, political leadership has fomented an elevation of all of this with vitriol and Twitter and I believe entertainment and some media, but the bottom line is that the soil is right for this kind of thing to happen.
There is a cultural war in America for its heart and soul and make no mistake behind it is Satan. I believe that America was and is a nation that God put in an exceptional position. We have flourished and prospered and been a beacon of hope to the world. We have liberated millions and remain a staunch ally of Israel, which from Genesis 12 gives us a great position in God’s eye. But we have increasingly allowed materialism, apathy, hatred and immorality to drag us down. But at the root of it all is the deception Satan has thrown at us.
When I hear political leaders on both sides sling mud and spew venom it sickens me. Frankly, political leadership with the wisdom to lead us out of this quagmire isn’t there. No political leader can make America great again. Only God can as our nation returns to Him.
John Phillips, a great Biblical writer, said it so well when he said this, “Satan makes use of people to persecute us, lie to us, cheat us, hurt us and even kill us, but our real enemy is lurking in the darkness and shadows of the unseen world moving people as pawns on the chessboard of time. As little by as we see people as enemies and wrestle against them, we will spend our strength in vain.”
Satan, as the Bible tells us, deceives and destroys in every area. But he also divides. He tries to bring people to hate each other and God. Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:10 warns us that this happens and urges Christians, all people to strive for unity in Christ. That is not happening in America. None of our political leaders even discuss the true fix. Instead, there is blame and finger pointing. Our moving away from God and thereby allowing Satan free sway causes the last increasing division and hatred in our nation at its root. Paul said in Romans 16:17-18, “Watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught..... Who by their smooth talk and flattery deceive the hearts of the naive?”
We can only find solutions to problems that we have and to the hatred and emptiness of the hearts of our people in returning to the faith of our fathers. We can only find then when God is on the throne of our lives rather than self. We can only find them when churches quit splitting over unsound Biblical practices and lead. We can only find them when we wake up to realize who our real enemy is. We can only find them when political leaders on both sides lead in reality and not patronize us for a vote. America needs the Lord and we the people do. That starts with prayer and rededication and restoration will come. Those are the kind of restoration days our nation sorely needs. Until next week, grace and peace.
