Deadly tornadoes in Adair County this week remind us all that in the tranquility of our lives, there remains great uncertainty. Things can be going along wonderfully well and yet it all can change so quickly.
Jesus told the disciples that in the world there would be trials and tribulations and how right He was. Yet, He also said that we were not to fear for He overcame the world and we can too through Him. In a world where uncertainty abounds, we must believe that. If we do not and believe that things just happen without rhyme or reason then we are really in a pitiful state.
I do not know why evil things happen in our world, but the Bible tells us that God is in control. He is sovereign. And even when things seem to look like the world, even our world is falling apart, Romans 8:28 says that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. We live in a fallen world and as Paul said, all creation frowns fir redemption. Things do spin in our world but God is never taken by surprise and never is leaving us as orphans in life's storms. Whatever you deal with, never forget that or doubt His love.
Next week is Memorial day and I could have spoken of that today but I will devote my column next week to that and share some insights with you on our soldiers’ sacrifice and some personal things, as this year it takes on additional significance without my dad.
I do hope you take time to honor our fallen and attend special tributes. I have been on a business trip and will be back tomorrow. I will look forward to being back in Iowa. We have so much to be grateful for to live in Iowa. More on that later as well.
