Ephesians 3: 16-19.
Before Jesus left the earth, He promised to send someone to be with us continually. He promised to send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, part of the Godhead or Trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He called Him the Comforter. He was to bear our burdens, urge us to pray and bear our burdens and guide us.
He would know our worries, cares, desires and feelings and thoughts. In fact, the Holy Spirit was like a liaison who could carry even our inexpressable thoughts to God.
In old times He was sometimes called the Holy Ghost but He is not a ghost but God. He is equal to God the Father and Son. But He has a different role. He knows you better than you know yourself. If you are a Christian, He lives within you. When you struggle with pain with feelings of pain and depression which so many do today, He will comfort you. When you are listening hard for God's voice, He will speak to you. When you are down to your last bit of strength, He will lift and carry you.
Jesus didn't leave us as orphans in the storm when He returned to Heaven after the Resurrection. He sent this Holy Spirit to guide us and guard us, to make us and mold us. You cant earn His service but as soon as you embrace Christ, He dies live within you. He imparts gifts and Grace's to you and helps you literally bear fruit in your Christian life as you yield to Him. Galatians 5:22-23 says we can bear fruit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:16 that we can know the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Again, if we have committed our lives to Christ and have a personal commitment and relationship with Him, the Holy Spirit is in us.
And He dwells in us forever. And in addition to the other things I have mentioned, He convicts usbof sin but helps us overcome temptation.
The key thought I want you to understand today is this...if you are a Christian, you will never have more of the Holy Spirit than you have now. But the key question is will you allow Him to have more of you.
