The Albia Lady Dees fought the heat and turned up the heat on Centerville Tuesday night in Albia as they defeated the Redettes 3-0 in SCC action.

The Lady Dees won the opener 25-20 then dominated the second set 25-12 and finished off the night with a 25-18 victory.

Offensively Ellie Spurgin led the team with 10 kills while Abbey Griffin added eight, and Abbie Martin had four aces. Spurgin was 18/21; Griffin 11/17; Jenna Gronewold was 3/4 with two kills; Addison Halstead was 3/3 with two kills; Tanae Thiravong was 5/7 with two kills; and Emma Wenger was 1/1. Alex Beard had 19 assists while Gronewold had three, Griffin one and Sophie Waber one.

Martin and Griffin led the team defensively with six digs each, Spurgin had four, Alex Beard three, and Wenger two.

From the service line Griffin was 15/16 with five aces. Gronewold was 12/13 with four aces; Martin was 7/11 with four aces; Thiravong was 5/5 with four aces; Beard was 9/9 with two aces; Halle Hindman was 3/5 with one ace; Spurgin was 5/7 with one ace; Emma Wenger was 5/5 with one ace; Adelina Curiel was 0/1; and Ashley Beary was 1/1.

The Lady Dees improve to 8-0 on the season and will travel to Knoxville on Tuesday to take on SCC rival who is also 8-0.

JV girls sweep

The Albia JV volleyball team defeated Centerville 2-0 on Tuesday night in Albia. The Lady Dees won the opener 25-3 and finished 25-8.

Ashley Beary and Jenna Gronewold led the team in serving going 10/11 with five aces and 10/10 with five aces respectively. Tanae Thiravong was 12/12 with four aces; Brooklyn Leshen was 12/12 with three aces; Adelina Curiel was 2/2 with one ace; Halle Hindman was 1/1 and Kirsten Best was 1/2 .

In hitting Halle Hindmen was 10/12 with six kills; Thiravong was 7/7 with five kills; Addy Halstead was 2/3 with one kill; Beary was 1/2 with one kill; and Leshen was 4/4 with two kills. Gronewold had eight assists while Leshen and Beary each had one.

Defensively Curiel had six digs, Beary three, Thiravong two, Hindman two, Leshen one and Halstead one.

The Albia JV is 1-0 on the season.

Freshmen dominate

The freshmen defeated Centerville as well 25-5 and 25-11. Match statistics were not immediately available.

Both teams will travel to Knoxville on Tuesday.
