The Albia Lady Dee cross country team were able to roll to a team title at the Mustang Invitational held at Lake Fisher in Bloomfield. They did it with a complete team effort led by sophomore Sheryl Mae Rowe’s top three finish in third place. “This was an incredible effort all the way down through the line-up tonight. The improvements from a year ago on this course were amazing,” commented Coach Todd Ratliff.

Rowe finished the race in a time of 23:14, 11 places and a minute and 19 seconds faster than a year ago on the same course. Working their way up through the pack as the race unfolded, sophomore Becca Pistek, Jenah McCarty, and Sara Pistek worked together. “Sara took off tonight like her feet were on fire, and helped Sheryl Mae get the start that she needed. As Becca and Jenah came up along side her during the middle part of the race, she changed gears and ran with them for a good part of the race. This was huge for the team score tonight,” said Coach Ratliff. Becca Pistek would finish with a sixth place finish in a time of 24:00 (a 2:21 improvement from 2016), McCarty would take seventh place in 24:13 (1:51 quicker than a year ago) and Sara Pistek would finish ninth in a time of 24:38 (1:46 seconds faster than a year ago). “When your team’s four returning varsity runners average times almost two minutes faster than the previous year, you know they are working hard. It was incredible to watch tonight,” added Ratliff.

The top 10’s didn’t stop there as first year runner Dakota Selby was able to add the fifth runners points in 10th place in a time of 25:05. “Dakota is a little unconventional with her running form still, but as that improves, I expect she will continue to move forward in her finishes. A top 10 tonight from her was key to the team score,” said Coach Ratliff.

Erin Heaton would run a sub 26 minute race, finishing the course in 25:59 and finish 17th and Allison Major would bring home 21st place with a time of 27:35.

Team scores were as follows: Albia 35, Davis County 45, Centerville 69, Moravia, Kirksville, MO, and Wayne.

With the win, the varsity team moves to 19-2 against the 21 teams they have run against this season.
