The Albia Blue Demon doubles tennis team of Cameron Jourdan and Thomas Dias competed over the weekend in the Class 1A state tournament at Brynes Park in Waterloo.

The duo finished the weekend winning one of three matches, losing their first round to the eventual fourth place team.

Jourdan, a two-time state competitor, and his Brazilian exchange student partner, Dias, lost to Kyle Marek and Jake Thompson of LeMars 6-0, 6-1 to move into the consolation bracket. In their first match in consolation play, Jourdan-Dias beat Gannon Courtright and Navin Martin of Fairfield 6-2, 6-4.

In the second round of consolation play, the team met Kade Carpenter and Marcus Klemme of Spencer and lost 6-0, 6-4.

“Sometimes when guys get a long break like they did before the Spencer match, it leads to a slow start,” said Coach Joe Judge. “By the time they were clicking, they had dug themselves in too deep. Still it was an exciting time and Thomas and Cameron deserved to be there.”
