The Lady Dee freshman team, competing in the Eddyville Tournament on Tuesday, had a 9-2 lead over Chariton in the last inning with one out when the team suffered a total collapse in the field.

With the Chargers picking up five hits and benefitting from five Albia errors, the home team scored eight runs to hand Albia its first loss of the season, 10-9.

Albia opened up the scoring with a run in the first inning. Ashley Beary singled, Aliyah Myers hit into an error and Meghan Jones singled to drive in Beary.

Jones was on the mound and gave up two runs on a walk, a triple and an error. Albia took the lead in the top of the second with two runs. Marrisa Terrell singled, Ayana Thomas doubled to drive in a run and Ella Teno hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in a run.

Albia added two more in the third with Myers walking and scoring on a double by Jones and then Jones scored on an error hit by Hanna Anderson. The Lady Dees opened up an 8-2 lead in the fourth with three runs. Lexie Jones singled with one out, Beary singled, Myers hit into an error and Anderson hit into another error. Albia’s final run came in the fifth when Davis singled, Teno hit into a fielder’s choice and Jones laced an RBI single.

The seven-run lead collapsed in the bottom of the fifth. Meghan Jones took the loss on the mound despite seven strikeouts. She gave up seven hits and one walk.

The team came back in the second game of the tournament against hosting Eddyville, posting an impressive 11-0 win. Lady Dee pitcher Addy Halstead dominated from the mound and got plenty of defensive support, tossing a three-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts. Albia committed two errors.

The Dees offense was relentless. They scored a run in the first when Lexie Jones singled, got to third on a single by Beary and scored on a single by Myers.

In the second Meghan Jones walked, Peyton Popson reached on an error, the runners advanced on Maia Paxton’s sacrifice bunt, Teno loaded the bases with a walk and three runs scored on an error hit by Lexie Jones and a double by Beary.

Seven runs were plated in the third when Spinler singled, Meghan Jones singled, Popson walked to load the bases, Paxton hit an RBI single, Teno hit an RBI single, Jones reached on an error, Beary hit an RBI single and Myers hit to third to drive in a run.

Beary went three for three to lead the team to its 10th victory in 11 games.

Their next competition is Saturday at the Oskaloosa Tournament beginning play around noon.
