The Albia wrestling team powered through the upper weights to capture a 51-24 victory over a much-improved Davis County team on Thursday.

Starting at 182, Gavin Shaw, Jer McAninch (195), Montez Ellis (220) and Jaquan Stallworth (275) scored pins to give Albia a 30-9 lead. Barrett Bonnett lost a razor thin match at 152, 3-2 to Wilston Wuthrich, Tate Padilla picked up a forfeit at 160 and Shawn Good lost by pin in 2:39 to Caden Hill.

Shaw pinned Clayton Garmon in 1:15 at 182, McAninch pinned Kolton Stemler in 1:42 at 195, Ellis pinned Mitchell Boyd in 2:10 at 220 and Stallworth pinned Dawson Townsend in 1:14 at 275.

As the lightweights took the mat, Albia 106-pounder Carter Anderson pinned Dawson Townsend in 1:14 before Logan Carter fell to Taylor Huggins by pin in 5:14. The Mustangs picked up two wins in a row when Gerald Rupe edged Dawson Bonnett 7-6 at 120. Top-ranked Aden Reeves pinned Marcus Elam in 2:26 before Eli Zanoni lost by pin in overtime to Davan Georing at 132.

At 138 Michael Thomas pinned Simon Ball in 1:10 and Stephen Conley finished off the team victory with a 7-1 decision over Austin Payne at 145.

“This was a great night for the Blue Demons,” said Coach Dave Wenger. “Our guys really answered the bell and gave a great effort to win this double dual.”
