After a 2-2 tie with Clarke, the Albia JV girls softball team has run off a string of big victories. That tie is their only blemish in 10 games this season.
Albia 10, EBF 0
The Dees clobbered Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 10-0 scoring six runs in the first inning. Five EBF errors compounded a hitting spree by Albia that had MacKenna Jones, Jade Boland, Halle Hindman and Danica Workman all hitting singles.
Lauren Bayer doubled and scored on a Jones single in the second, Taylee Wolfer singled and scored on an Allie Major single in the fourth with Major scoring on EBF’s sixth error and Wolfer walked and scored on Bayer’s walk-off double in the sixth.
Jones pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts. She walked one and hit two batters.
Albia 7, Davis County 5
The Mustangs gave the JV Dees a good game, rallying for three runs to cut into a 7-2 lead. Davis County scored two in the first inning on a hit, a walk and a two-run double. Albia came back in their half of the first to tie the score.
Wolfer hit a one-out triple, scored on Bayer’s double and Bayer scored on an error.
In the second Hindman doubled and Lexie Jones scored on an RBI single by Faith Zanoni. Albia went up 5-2 in the fifth when Bayer singled, followed by a single by Jones. Major drilled a single to score the runners.
In the sixth Albia went up 7-2 when Stacie Etcher walked, Wolfer walked and Bayer drove the two home with a single.
The Mustangs put on a furious rally in the top of the seventh. Two errors and two doubles scored three runs. A high fly to Major in center ended the game. Bayer had three hits and three RBI in the game. Wolfer and Zanoni each had two hits. Jones scattered six hits and three walks, giving up three earned runs and striking out 10.
Albia 11, Knoxville 0
The Dees shut out Knoxville in blowout fashion. While Jones was pitching a no-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts in four innings, Albia was putting on an offensive clinic. The Dees scored three in the first with Workman leading off with a triple, scoring on Wolfer’s error. Wolfer scored on a single by Jones who later scored.
Zanoni singled in the second but was left stranded. In the second Boland singled, Etcher walked, Zanoni drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Workman hit an RBI single.
The Dees ended the game in the fourth with six runs. Ashley Beary walked, Etcher walked and Zanoni hit an RBI single. Mollie Sollinger walked, Bayer walked and two runs scored on an error. Two more walks were delivered and Zanoni singled to clear the bases and end the game.
Albia 13, Chariton 1
It took just four innings to dispatch the Chargers 13-1. MacKenna Jones was again near perfect on the mound, having just a bit of control problems in the second with two walks and two passed balls scoring Chariton’s only run. Jones would give up three walks in the game while pitching a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Albia scored a run in the first with Workman’s leadoff triple and an RBI double by Bayer. Three more came across in the second with a single by Zanoni and a double by Workman. Albia scored five in the third with Bayer and Jones hitting back-to-back doubles, Beary and Boland hitting singles and a pair of runs scored on errors.
The final four runs to end the game in the fourth came on a walk to Bayer, Jones hitting into a deep fly error, Beary hitting an RBI single, Hindman walking, Boland hitting an RBI sacrifice fly and Etcher hitting the game winning RBI single.
