The Albia Lady Dees lost 3-0 to the Davis County Lady Mustangs on Tuesday night in Bloomfield. Albia lost the opening set 25-19 followed by a 25-18 loss and the night ended with a 25-14 deficit.

“Unfortunately not the outcome we had hoped for, but we are making strides in building our program,” said Coach Melissa Cox-Dustin. “When we started the season we hit negative the first five of our six games. We were making more hitting errors than we were getting kills. We have hit positive 14 of the last 15 matches.

“Our goal is to consistently hit over .100 as a team, and we are getting there,” Coach Dustin said. “We have had five matches all season where we have hit that goal. Last night we had three of our sophomore hitters hit over that goal, they are implementing what they have been taught and we have thrown a lot of new things at them this year and are proud of their accomplishments.

“We have to start seeing the urgency in playing every point as if it is the game winning point clear throughout each and every set,” she added.

Hannah Isley led in hitting with seven kills going 13/19; Alex Beard was 3/3; Abbey Griffin 16/18 with five kills; Makenna Ross 13/15 with four kills; Ellie Spurgin 4/5 with two kills; and Jade Van Polen 13/18 with three kills. Beard had 12 assists, Abbie Martin one and Spurgin seven.

In serving Isley was 10/10 with three aces; Beard 7/7 with one ace; Griffin 10/10; Martin 5/6; Maddy

Persons 1/1; Ross 8/9; and Spurgin 7/8.

Defensively Martin had seven digs, Beard three, Griffin three, Isley three, Persons three, Spurgin four, Van Polen one and Bella Wilson one. Griffin had three blocks, Spurgin one and Van Polen one.

“We play next week at Twin Cedars on Monday, Tuesday at Chariton and Saturday at Davis County tournament and have our last home game on Tuesday, October 10th which will be our parents/senior night and our pink out night as well.”
