The Albia boys cross country team continued to roll at their home invitational held at the Albia golf course on Monday. The team would finish runner up to the sixth ranked Pekin Panthers. “We ran well tonight in front of the home crowd,” said Coach Todd Ratliff. “We were able to beat conference foes in Chariton, Centerville, and Knoxville, which is a sign that these young men are working hard and doing the right thing out on the course.”

Brock Ratliff was able to keep Pekin from getting the perfect sweep on the individual side of things where he finished fourth overall in a time of 18:34. “Brock did a nice job of running within himself tonight. I thought his race strategy was good and he hung on to the ranked runners from Pekin nicely tonight,” said Coach Ratliff.

Keeping pace for the Blue Demons and securing the runner-up team finish were Bradley Yenger in 12th place (19:39), Cody Dalman in 14th (19:48), Jacob Fisher in 17th (19:58) and Lane Scieszinski in 22nd (20:28). “These young men continue to work very hard,” he said. “ The addition of Lane back in the line-up is very important to our team, and we saw that first hand tonight.”

Also keeping pace with the varsity squad were juniors Carson Stocker and Cole Folkerts. “These two just continue to make me smile when I watch them run. They were in the high 22 minute to 24 minute range most of last season and are destroying their previous bests at every meet so far this season,” said Coach Ratliff. “Cole would finish the course tonight in 20:48 with Carson breaking the tape in 21:11.

Team scores on the evening were as follows: Pekin 18, Albia 69, Knoxville 78, Chariton 121, Van Buren 126, Wayne 162, Centerville 165, Clarke, Melcher Dallas, Twin Cedars, and Moravia.

The team runs it’s record to 37-7 against the teams they have faced off with this season.
