The Davis County Mustang volleyball team pulled an upset in the second round of regional play, beating Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 3-1. Game scores were 26-24, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-23.

“It’s not the outcome we were hoping for,” said Coach Gladys Genskow. “The girls played hard, but gave up too many points on errors. We beat ourselves and that is the hard part about losing knowing the team didn't beat you we beat ourselves.

“I thought we had a hard time keeping the momentum,” she said. “Once we had it for a couple of points, we'd make a few errors and let them right back into the set. This happened all night long.

“When you get into post season the stakes get higher and the pressure sometimes is hard to play through,” she added.

“It has been a great season overall to coach,” said Coach Genskow. “These girls have worked so hard all season long. We will keep our heads high and keep striving to be that top team in Southern Iowa.”

The team ended the season with a 21-16 record. Davis County advances with a 17-22 record.
