The Albia Lady Dee volleyball team scored a decisive 3-0 win over Wayne of Corydon on Thursday night in Albia.

The Lady Dees led from start to finish in set one as Ellie Spurgin served Albia to a 6-1 edge to start the contest. Albia maintained the margin throughout the game until an ace serve by Jenna Gronewold, a couple of missed kills by the Falcons and a rocket kill by Abbey Griffin gave the Lady Dees a commanding 20-13 lead. Strong serves by Griffin and then Abbie Martin ended in a 25-16 win for Albia.

The second set Wayne hung much closer scoring the first point and staying within three points until Spurgin nailed a kill to make it 15-11 and then stepped to the service line and hit three aces in a row. She added a fourth ace serve and the Lady Dee lead ballooned to 20-11. After a Falcon score Griffin hit another rocket spike and Halle Hindman and Gronewold served out the game to win 25-13.

In set three Albia had to muster a comeback effort as the Falcons took and early 5-2 lead and held on to the advantage until Alex Beard led the Lady Dees on a 6-0 run from the service line hitting one ace while Griffin and Spurgin added kills to take a 13-10 lead. Tanae Thiravong used a dink to score and get the serve back in Albia’s hands and Spurgin went to the line to foster a 4-0 run making it 18-11. Martin finished the game with two aces for a 25-16 victory ending the match.

Individually Ericka Archibald hit 17/21 with seven kills; Alex Beard hit 11/11 with three kills, had 16 assists, eight digs and served 19/20 with four aces; Griffin hit 20/24 with 13 kills, had one assist and eight digs, served 11/12 with two aces; Gronewold hit 8/8 with three kills, had four assists and four digs and served 10/10 with one ace; Hindman had one dig, and served 7/8; Martin hit 2/3 with one kill, had nine digs and served 10/11 with four aces; Maddy Persons hit 1/1, had eight assists, four digs; Spurgin hit 12/15 with four kills, had three digs and served 13/13 with four aces; and Tanae Thiravong hit 4/5 with two kills, and had one dig.

The Lady Dees improve to 12-8 on the season and hosted Davis County on Tuesday night.
