Albia A

The Albia Blue Demons had a surprise home game on Wednesday night due to a rainy field at Bussey. Twin Cedars, Central Decatur and Albia were supposed to play each other on the Sabers field but because it rained hard north, the game was moved to Monroe County Sports Complex.

Albia was able to play Central Decatur but the rest of the games were halted by weather. The tournament resumed Monday at Albia with the Blue Demons playing Twin Cedars.

The Blue Demons used seventh inning heroics to defeat the Cardinals 8-7. Albia took an early lead with two runs in the second inning. Jaden Hugen reached on a bunt and Nathan Crall sacrifice bunted him to second base. Barrett Bonnett doubled him to score Hugen and Jameson Robertson singled to score the second run. The Blue Demons added a run in the fourth as Hugen singled and stole second and a two out single by Robertson sent Hugen across the plate.

In the fifth Central Decatur scored three times on a double a single and two errors. Albia scored in the fifth when Nathaniel Wynn singled and Ashtin Brand doubled to score. The Cardinals countered with two runs in the sixth knocking out four singles in the frame to lead 5-4. Albia threatened in the sixth with singles by Bonnett, Robertson and Hunter DeMoss but left the bases loaded. Central Decatur added to their lead in the seventh with two singles and an error making it 7-4 going into the final at bat.

Luke Bossard led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. Gage Wilson singled as well and Hugen walked to load the bases. Crall flew out to scored to score Bossard, Bonnett singled to score Wilson, DeMoss singled to score Hugen and Wynn ripped a single to right center field scoring Bonnett to walk off celebration.

From the mound Bossard picked up the victory going one inning allowing no runs on one hit striking out two. Barrett Bonnett went four and two thirds innings allowing three runs on three hits striking out four and walking one. Gaige Rankin threw one inning allowing two runs on two hits striking out one and walking one. Edison Goodlow threw one third of an inning allowing two runs on three hits striking out one.

Albia improved to 6-18. and will travel to Twin Cedars on Monday night.

Albia will play at Sigourney (14-6) on Tuesday and at BGM (13-10) in a double-header on Wednesday before heading into district tournament play at Eddyville against the Rockets in the 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13 game.
