Albia Blue Demon Golf team was in action at Pine Knolls Country Club in Knoxville on Wednesday. The Blue Demons shot 356 for a fourth place finish. Pella won the meet with 305. second was PCM with 314 and Knoxville 323, Winterset 344, Albia 356 and Clarke 375.
Individually Albia was led by sophomore Tein Thiravong with an 84. “Tein is playing some good golf for a first year player and we need him to continue this type of effort in conference and Class 2A Sectional play,” said Coach Marty Hermsen.
Next was senior Dawson Hermsen who shot 88. “This was a good effort by Dawson and we need him to execute some more pars and birdies moving forward,” said Coach Hermsen. “Dawson has hit his driver very well and needs to hit those critical short second shots on the green and of course make some putts.”
Third for the Blue Demons was junior Ian Flahive with a 90. “Ian has struggled a little the last couple weeks. We need him to get his confidence back and shoot some lower scores.” Sophmore David Fisher was the final score with a 94. “David has had a pretty solid week. He still needs to sharpen those short game skills.
“Zach Jones got off to an awful start today with a nine and a seven to be six over par after two holes. I was happy that Zach hung in there and played some competitive golf after the bad start.” Rounding out the varsity team was Chase Maddison who shot 100.
The individual title went to Knoxville senior Tyler Vaske who fired a -2 under par 68 today. Second place honors went to Tyler's teammate Cade McDonald who shot even par 70.
