The Blue Demon soccer team has had a flurry of action in the last week. Albia hosted the Chariton Chargers last Thursday losing a hotly contested match 3-2.
Chariton was able to score early and took a 2-0 lead at the 20 minute mark, but the Blue Demons were able to close the gap with a goal by Ian Greiner assisted by Trevor Cloyed to make it 2-1 at the half. Three minutes into the second half, the Chargers were able to take advantage of a long throw in their offensive third and hit a shot that ricocheted off the Albia defenders for a goal.
Cloyed was able to score to boost the Blue Demon’s spirits but Albia could not find the net for the remainder of the game. Landon Noe had five shots in the match with two on goal while Carson Stocker had one as did Landon Turner and Adam Waber. Zach Lawrence had two saves.
Two days later the Blue Demons headed to Waverly to take part in the Lion Club Invitational. There they lost a 2-1 decision to a tough 2A Webster City team with the Lynx scoring in the final minute to claim the victory. Greiner scored for Albia while Zach Lawrence made three saves in the game in goal.

The Blue Demons ended the day much the same way they started it. After a tough defensive minded game, Albia fell to Iowa Falls 1-0. Greiner had six shots and Cloyed one but none found the net. Lawrence had three saves.
On Monday Albia was on the field again for the fifth time in five days taking on Prairie City Monroe. The Blue Demon seemed to dominate play through the first half and really put the pressure on PCM for the first 20 minutes of the second half but the Mustangs broke through in the 20th minute to score from inside the goalie box. Albia had two chances to score in the following minutes but could not bypass the PCM goalie. The Mustangs scored twice in the waning minutes of the game to take a 3-0 victory. Greiner had six shots in the game, while Cloyed, Noe, Stocker, and Turner each had one. Lawrence had six saves in goal.
