Capping off an amazing six years of running in the Albia cross country program, senior, Sherryl Mae Rowe completed her last race in a Lady Dee uniform in outstanding fashion.
Rowe would get out to a good start and maintain her positioning throughout most of the race. At about the two mile mark she was able to make a push, and in the last 800 meters of the race she closed the gaps and passed 11 different competitors to finish 52nd overall in a time of 21:02.
“I had my goal set at 21:00, and came up just a couple of seconds short, but today I was able to finish with my best 5K full length course time of 21:02. I am happy with that, and know I left all of my effort out there today,” said Rowe.
“I will miss running with Sherryl and watching her race,” said Coach Todd Ratliff. “She has a calmness about her as she competes that is very rare to find. She remains in control at all times. I am glad that she will be part of the East Team at the Senior All Star meet next weekend in Ankeny. It’s a great honor, and one that I hope she enjoys because she has earned it. A great race, a great season, and a great career as a Lady Dee.”
Sherryl will continue running in college next year for Dordt.
