The Blue Demon baseball team dropped a double header to the EBF Rockets on Monday night in Eddyville.

In the opener the Rocket’s Jared McCrea tossed a three hit shutout while EBF scored a 4-0 SCC victory. Neither team managed a run in the first four innings. Albia did threaten in the second as Luke Bossard singled and stole second base but two ground outs and a strike out left him stranded. In the fourth Jaden Hugen was hit by a pitch Hunter DeMoss reached on a fielder’s choice that took Hugen off the base path. He stole second but did not advance. Both Nathan Wynn and Barrett Bonnett had a hit in the game.

EBF broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning as Trey Moore walked, advanced on a wild pitch and stole third base. He then scored on Zach Lenard’s single. The Rockets added three runs in the sixth as Wyatt Klyn walked, Logan McCrea singled and Jaden Herr ripped a three run homer.

Jared McCrea claimed the victory on the mound going seven innings allowing no runs on three hits striking out six and walking none. Tein Thiravong took the loss going five and two thirds innings allowing four runs on six hits striking out six and walking three. Eli Smith threw a third of an inning allowing no runs on no hits.

Game two was equally competitive as Albia fell 5-2 to the Rockets. EBF scored once in the first inning as Jared McCrea doubled and scored on a single by Wyatt Klyn. They scored again in the second as Herr was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second by Trey Moore and eventually scored on a ground out by DJ Stout.

Albia scored in the fourth when Luke Bossard walked and took third base on an over throw. He scored on a ground ball by Bonnett. The Blue Demons tied the game in the fifth as Smith walked and went to second on a bunt by Hugen and scored on a hit by Hunter DeMoss. The Rockets responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth as Jared McCrea singled, Klyn doubled and consecutive hits by Logan McCrea and Herr scored them.

EBF added an insurance run in the sixth as Leonard singled and scored on a hit by Stout.

Logan McCrea threw six innings allowing two runs on three hits striking out four and walking two while Adam LaRue finished the game going one inning allowing no runs on no hits striking out two.

For Albia Hunter DeMoss took the loss going two innings allowing two runs on two hits striking out one. Barrett Bonnett threw three innings allowing two runs on four hits. Eli Smth threw one inning allowing one run on two hits striking out one and walking one.

Albia falls to 2-8 in the SCC and 2-10 overall. They played PCM on Thursday night at home and host Davis County on Friday.
