The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.
The United Way of Mahaska County VITA program has operated for 13 years, offering free tax help to qualifying individuals and families. These qualifications include free tax preparation for:
• Filing Status: Married and Heads of Household Income Limit of $67,000
• Filing Status: Single Income Limit of $40,000 (Some exceptions may be made due to Covid-19)
Due to Covid restrictions, this year we are preparing and filing tax returns through "drop-off" and "pick up" by appointment only. The Albia VITA site coordinator is Ann Stocker who has volunteered at the Oskaloosa site for the past five years. Tax returns are prepared and reviewed by volunteers who have passed their IRS tests and certification. This training includes maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all taxpayer information.
"We have four volunteers all with finance backgrounds with lots of tax preparation experience."
The appointments will be at the First Christian Church Memorial Hall. To schedule an appointment or obtain more information, please call 641-226-2744.
