Jon and Elaine Smith have opened a Tasos’ Bar and Grill in the former White Buffalo Restaurant in Albia. The couple has operated the Oskaloosa Tasos since 1998.
Elaine Smith is an Oskaloosa native and Jon is from Knoxville originally. He is actually familiar with Albia from the years he coached Knoxville High School soccer against Albia’s Gary Gravert.
The Smiths were introduced to the idea of bringing a Tasos’ to Albia through a friendship between their son and the son of new Indian Hills Inn owner, A.J. Patel.
Tasos’ is a popular restaurant in Oskaloosa and most of the menu will be offered at the Albia store. Currently the menu includes a wide array of burgers and specialty sandwiches. Eventually they hope to add a pizza oven to offer their popular Tasos’ pizza to the menu.
The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5-9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant will be closed on Sunday. The bar will be open the same hours.
The couple has done some remodeling and redecorating of the restaurant and the décor offers a sort of 60’s and 70’s/Route 66 feel with music and old cars decorating the walls.
