Veterans Day

Plans are still being finalized for Albia’s Veterans Day observance next Thursday, but it will look a lot different.

The Veterans Breakfast usually held at the American Legion will be a carry-out at Hy-Vee. And the American Legion colorguard will probably do a 21-gun salute and taps at both nursing homes and then head out to Welcome Home Soldier to do the same without a speaker or large gathering.

The traditional Veterans Day gathering at the Albia Community High School will not be held due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Lincoln Center students are planning a virtual tribute to veterans.

A complete story (once details are firmed up) will be in next Tuesday’s Monroe County News.
