The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont school board handled a number of regular items at the meeting on Monday, May 18. Some of these were: open enrollment in and out and new hires.
A motion carried to offer contracts for the upcoming school year to: Kiera MacPherson, Assistant Softball Coach; Vanessa Worrell, Art Teacher, Jr/Sr High School; Paige Ver Steegh, Color Guard; Kristen Birchard, After School Homework Help; Angela Koebke, After School Homework Help; Lori Hugen, Therapeutic Classroom Teacher, .1 Program Coordinator; Bridget DeWitt, Behavior Interventionist for Therapeutic Classroom; Savannah Wilz, Behavior Interventionist for Therapeutic Classroom; Jillian Van Donselaar, 5th Grade Classroom Teacher; Phyllis Sutton, Behavior Interventionist for Therapeutic Classroom.
Resignations were accepted for the following: Brea Lobberecht, cook at Eddyville Elementary; Keelie Wanders, Childcare Associate; Lindsey Lobberecht, Cook at Jr/Sr High School; Christopher Ellerston, Thespian Club Sponsor; and Lisa Davis, 9th Grade Volleyball Coach.
Open enrollment for the upcoming school years was approved as follows: In: Simon Utterback, Kindergarten from Ottumwa to Blakesburg Elementary; Olivia Walker, Kindergarten from Ottumwa to Eddyville Elementary; Faithe Sample, Kindergarten from Albia to HSAP; Jacob Weinmeister, 1st Grade from Oskaloosa to Fremont Elementary; Macie Gaudin, 2nd Grade from Ottumwa to Fremont Elementary and Out: Asher Van Weelden, 5th Grade out to Oskaloosa-family move and Cecil Van Weelden, 7th Grade out to Oskaloosa-family move.
Motions carried to approve student teaching agreements with Iowa Wesleyan University and Iowa State University.
The meeting opened with a public hearing regarding amending the current budget. A motion carried to approve this; due to funds received for Covid.
Motions carried to accept the bids of Glosser Construction for $33,260 to pave the Blakesburg parking lot and for $74,500 to pave the high school parking lot.
Motions carried to purchase two used 2019 Thomas buses. One is a 65 passenger for $60,895 and the second one is a 77 passenger for $61, 595.
The contracts for all employees were approved as follows: classified master, 1.95% increase; certified master, 2.5% increase and administrators/fiscal/other contracts 2.5% increase.
A motion carried unanimously to accept Cardinal School into the South-Central Conference.
Following discussion regarding east wall of the west building at Blakesburg it was to decided to take no action and the item was tabled
Superintendent Scott Williamson reported to the board an update on Covid State Mitigation and funds following open enrolled students.
April Glosser, Curriculum Director told board members that Spring FAST and iReady reading and math testing has been completed.
Tammy Davis, Principal at Blakesburg Elementary, reported for all the elementary buildings stating all testing had been completed and each building had taken their students to Pioneer Ridge for a field day.
Director of Special Services, Cathy Williamson gave the board the update on the progress of hiring staff for the Therapeutic classroom. She also told the board that some grants have been applied for.
Daycare Director Michele Ratliff told the board the daycare had received a two-star rating from the Iowa’s Quality Rating System.
Written reports were received from Jr/Sr High Principal, Steve Noble; Maintenance, Andy Heinle and nutrition.
At the next regular meeting fees for the upcoming school year will be discussed and set.
Vacancies at this time are: Anticipated Strat II at the Jr/Sr High School; 3rd Grade Teacher at Fremont Elementary; 2nd Grade Teacher at Fremont Elementary; Cook at Eddyville Elementary; Cook at Jr/Sr High School; Therapeutic Classroom Teacher; Behavior Interventionist, 2; Business Teacher, Jr/Sr High; Activity Bus Driver; Child Care Associate; Supplemental/Coaching Positions: Assistant Volleyball; 9th Grade Volleyball; Jr High Boys Baseball; Jr High Softball; Head Wrestling; Assistant Wrestling; Jr High Wrestling; Assistant Boys Basketball and Substitutes: All positions.
