Send off planned
Because of COVID-19, the regular sendoff of the team at the Trinity Family Life Center will not be held. KIIC Radio is organizing a sendoff much like their earlier drive by celebrations.
A free-will offering meal will be available with all proceeds going to the softball team for housing expenses (Iowa Central College dormitories are not available this year to house state tournament teams). Sonny Schroeder will be doing pulled pork and cornbread and Greg Dorpinghaus will be making smoked mac and cheese from 5-7 p.m. on the northwest side of the square. The meal is a drive through and people are encouraged to cruise throughout the evening.
KIIC will be broadcasting Friday Night Lights style complete with a treasure hunt.
The Albia Newspapers will be publishing a special State Tournament Section that will be mailed on Thursday afternoon. The traditional special section will include an Honor Page for parents, friends and relatives to send along their best wishes. Deadline for submission is Wednesday, 5 p.m.
See Tuesday's Monroe County News for stories and photographs of regional softball along with the end of the Albia baseball season.
