Harold Versal “Buddy” Allison Sr. (1946-2021)

    Harold Versal “Buddy” Allison Sr., 74, of Blakesburg, died Jan. 7, 2021 at his home.

    He was born Jan. 8, 1946 in Ottumwa to Versal “Bud” and Wilda Louise Spinks Allison. He married LaVina Marie “Cookie” Weidman Nov. 19, 1965.

    A 1964 graduate of Albia High School, Buddy worked at Duea Chevrolet, Winger Boss, Blakesburg School, Monroe Co. Road Department, and John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 2011. Buddy had also served as Mayor of Blakesburg.

    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, antique tractors, feeding fish in his pond, cutting wood, running his sawmill, his cats, looking for arrowheads, visiting with friends and most of all his kids and grandkids.

    Surviving are his wife, Cookie; three sons, Buddy (Connie) Allison Jr. of Blakesburg, John (Becky) Allison of Ottumwa, and Ed Allison (Francisco Gracia) of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Connie (Aaron) Phillips of Monroe, Wisc.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Downey, Courtney and Tyler Allison, Brittany (Travis) Harrington, Dakota (Savannah), Makayla, Kira, and Brenna Phillips; two step great-grandchildren, Addison and Marki Harrington; and a sister-in-law, Sue (Gary) Speas of Unionville.

    His body has been cremated. No services are planned. Private inurnment will be in Blakesburg Cemetery at a later date.

    Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
