Reva Dunning

Reva M. Dunning, age 82, of Albia, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

She was born in Cedar Rapids on February 15, 1938, the daughter of Elizabeth and Howard Rhatigan. She and siblings Ronald, Robert, Roy, Richard, Rosalie, and Kay were raised by Elizabeth and Raymond Jones on a farm in rural Monroe County. She married James Ellsworth Dunning on June 4, 1955. Together they had six children, Pamela, Raymond, Reva Beth, James, William, and Scott. They shared 60 years of marriage before James’s passing on January 28, 2017.

She was a devoted Mom and homemaker, and worked outside the home at the American Cancer Society and as a newspaper delivery-person. She liked doing crossword puzzles, and she loved square dancing with Jim and playing board games

Reva is survived by her 3 children, Jim Dunning, Bill (Amy) Spangler-Dunning and Scott (Gina) Dunning; a son-in-law, Rick (Marie) Bishop; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Dunning; 6 grandchildren, Darcy (Danny) Keisling and their children, Hannah, Xavier, and Noah, Tristan Spangler-Dunning, Vanessa (Eric) Pierson and their children, Isabella and Alexis, Brian (Molly) Bishop and their children Wesley, Zachary, and Ellison, Jennifer (Blake) Lewis and their son, Raymond, and Charles (Jame’) Dunning and their daughter, Raely; and 3 brothers, Bob, Roy, and Dick Rhatigan. She is also survived my several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her mother, Elizabeth (Raymond) Jones; her father, Howard Rhatigan; siblings Ronald, Rosalie, and Kay; and children Bethy, Ray, and Pam.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2021, at Cuba Cemetery in Monroe County, with Pastor Arlene Johnson officiating. The service will be shared on the Tharp Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
