Margaret Kurimski (1927-2020)

Margaret Leona Kurimski, age 93, of Albia, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Margaret was born in Hocking, in Monroe County on June 28, 1927. Her parents were John and Helen (Honis) Wasko.

Margaret worked at the food center and the Gambles store in Albia prior to her marriage. She married John J. Kurimski of Lovilia, on April 22, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia. They lived in Lovilia for 43 years before moving to Knoxville in 1993.

Margaret was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She and John were blessed with two children, Kathleen A. and John Paul Kurimski. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She enjoyed country and polka music and dancing to polka bands. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. She was devoted to her faith.

Margaret is survived by her son, John (Martha) Kurimski of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Angela (Aaron) Isenberg of Indianola, Sean (Eunice) Deeds of Marena, Ariz., Amber (Matt) Rider of Ankeny, and Kristi Kurimski of Denver, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren, Malorie Isenberg, Corbin Isenberg, Sydney Rider, Bianca Deeds, Ava Deeds, Ava Rider, and Liam Deeds; and a brother, Charles (Mary Beth) Wasko of Ottumwa. Margaret is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Kathleen A.Deeds; her parents, John and Helen Wasko; and three brothers, Albert, John and Leonard Wasko.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. Due to the current pandemic, Margaret’s family will not be present during the visitation time. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.

A memorial has been established to the family.
