Jacqualine Keeton (1948-2021)

    Jacqualine “Jackie” Kay Keeton, age 72, of Ottumwa, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at the MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines.

    Jackie was born on June 25, 1948, to Elllsworth and Zilpha Marcene (Doud) Brown at the Ottumwa Hospital.  She grew up and attended school in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School with the class of 1966. On Oct. 18, 1991, she was united in marriage to Carl Keeton. Carl and Jackie shared 29 years of marriage prior to her passing.

    Jackie worked at Tenco in Ottumwa before going to work for Universal Rundle. She then worked for the Environmental Service Department of the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for more than 30 years before retiring. Jackie was a member of the Christian Church in Blakesburg. She enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing, and playing Solitaire. She loved all animals and liked to feed them and take care of dogs.    

    Jackie is survived by her husband, Carl Keeton of Ottumwa; a sister, Ronda (Doug) Glosser of Blakesburg; a brother, Rod (Windy) Brown of Ottumwa; a brother-in-law, Gordon (Stacy) Keeton of Albia; a sister-in-law, Roxanne (Dave) Valentine of Newton; and her mother-in-law, Claudean Keeton of Albia. Jackie is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellsworth and Zilpha Marcene Brown; a brother, Ellsworth Brown Jr.; and her father-in-law, Wendell Keeton.

    Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jackie’s family present to greet family and friends.

    Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan.  12, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Ray Lyon officiating. Burial followed services at Union Chapel Cemetery in Albia.

    Memorials have been established to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
