A coach is never really sure what kind of team he has until they open competition and Albia soccer coach, Aaron Koester, knows he has a defensive stopper.
The Blue Demons soccer team scored four first half goals to defeat Pella Christian 4-0 on Monday night in the season opener.
Landon Noe and Adam Sheffield each had two goals.
But the real story of the game is this statistics. The Blue Demons had 21 shots on goal cmpared to just two for the Eagles of Pella Christian.
“It was just a dominant defense performance by our back players and mid-fielders,” said Coach Koester.
That back line-up included seniors Ben Leshen, Austin Stanley, Gage Shafer, David Fisher and first sub in, Max Teno.
Goalie and newly appointed Captain, Zach Lawrence, performed as expected in what would be his fourth season as a regular goalie. He was perfect in defending the goal, even though few balls ever got by the back defensive players.
Part of the reason why Pella Christian was frustrated offensively, was the agressive mid-field play coming from Connor Fisher, Sophie Waber, Cason Landon, Brock Ratliff, Dawson Bonnett and Eli Zanoni.
The Albia JV played to a 0-0 tie i n two 15-minute halves.
