The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team headed to Knoxville Tuesday night, lost the first set, then nearly upset the #8 ranked Panthers.

The Rockets lost the first set 25-23, then pounded the Panthers 25-12, 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead. Knoxville came back to tie the match with a narrow 25-23 set score before taking the final set 15-6.

“What a match tonight against Class 4A 8th ranked Knoxville,” said Coach Gladys Genskow. “Our girls were ready to play and they played one of their best matches tonight. We were so close to winning this match, but just couldn’t pull out the fifth set. I couldn’t have asked for more hustle then these girls put forth tonight.”

Aggressive serving took Knoxville out of their offensive system many times during the match. “We had trouble controlling the tip and short serves in set five,” said the coach.

“I feel as if we had played all of our matches like we did tonight, we would have beaten most of the teams we have played this season,” said Coach Genskow. “ I told the girls we need to build upon this match, learn from this loss and keep moving forward to get better.”
