An opening game tie with Lynnville-Sully is the only blemish on an otherwise unbeaten record for the Albia JV boys baseball team.
Albia 6, Lynnville-Sully 6
The JV baseball team had to settle for kissing their sister in a four-inning 6-6 tie. The teams exited the first inning tied 1-1, then the home team scored a run in the second and three in the third before the Blue Demons exploded for five runs in the fourth to go up 6-5. L-S scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to end the game in a tie.
Hunter DeMoss went the distance on the mound for Albia, giving up six runs on 10 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Only three runs were earned.
Albia played some serious long ball with Joey Pearson, Wyatt Sinclair, Wyatt Throckmorton and Wyatt Beckwith all hitting doubles. Jackson Pence had an RBI double, Pearson had two RBI, Logan Heaton singled and scored and Throckmorton scored twice.
Albia 11, Pella Christian 2
The Albia JV baseball team opened its season at home with an 11-2 win over Pella Christian. The Blue Demons scored two in the first, two in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth. The Eagles only runs came in the fourth.
Throckmorton went three and a third innings on the mound, giving up just four walks while striking out four.
He was lifted after giving up a run for Sinclair who got the save in two-thirds of an inning on the mound, giving up two hits and a run.
Albia battered Pella Christian pitching for 11 hits and seven earned runs. Sam Shepard was 1-1 with three runs scored. Beau Little was 2-2 with a double and two RBI, Beckwith was 1-1 with two RBI, Pence was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Gage Oddo was 1-1 with a run scored, Garin Grinstead had an RBI single and G. Helmon scored two runs.
Albia 5, Cardinal 4
The Blue Demons jumped to a 5-0 lead over Cardinal and then withstood a furious fifth inning rally to win 5-4.
Throckmorton started and gave up one hit with four walks and eight strikeouts in four innings. Pearson came on in relief in the fifth and gave up four runs on four hits and a walk before gaining the save.
Matthew Selby hit an RBI triple and Shepard and Pence both doubled to drive in runs. Little also had an RBI single while CJ Flattery and Heaton singled.
Albia 7, Chariton 3
The Blue Demon JV scored four runs in the first inning to carve out a 7-3 win over Chariton. Little and Throckmorton combined on the mound with Little going two and a third innings, giving up three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Throckmorton came in in relief pitching an inning and two thirds of shutout ball, striking out three and giving up one hit.
Gage Oddo and Sinclair each hit a two-run single, Little doubled and scored, Throckmorton had an RBI singled and scored twice and Pence singled and scored twice.
Albia 11, Clarke 2
The Albia JV baseball team scored three runs in the first and seven in the third to dominate Clarke 11-2. Throckmorton picked up the win tossing a three-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. He gave up just two runs in the fourth inning, pitching himself out of the late inning jam.
Throckmorton also helped himself at the plate going 3-3 with two runs scored. Beckwith had the big stick, hitting a three-run triple. Little went 2-2 with a double and two RBI. Sinclair was 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Shepard was 1-2 with a run scored. Flattery walked and scored and Oddo singled and scored two runs.
Albia 9, PCM 4
The Blue Demons scored multiple runs in every inning except the third to beat PCM 9-4 on Boyd Brittain Field. The JV team had Little on the mound and he got off to a slow start, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning. But his offense came up with three in the first and never relinquished the lead.
Little pitched all five innings, giving up four runs on five hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.
Throckmorton had two hits, scored twice and had an RBI. Oddo had an RBI single and scored twice, Little scored twice and had an RBI, Beckwith had a single and scored, Flattery had a two-run single and Sinclair singled.
Albia 9, Davis County 1
Albia scored seven runs in the second inning to break a 1-1 tie with Davis County and went on to post a 9-1 win. Throckmorton tossed a one-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound.
He also had two hits including a double and an RBI in the game. Pence had an RBI double, Oddo had an RBI single, Flattery had an RBI single, Selby scored twice and Sinclair had a hit.
Albia 3, Keokuk 1
The Albia JV moved to 7-0-1 on the season, keeping their zero loss streak alive with a 3-1 win over Keokuk last Wednesday.
Little and Sinclair combined for a three-hitter. Little was perfect in three innings with one strikeout. Sinclair gave up a run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
The two pitchers got all the run support they needed in the third with two runs. Another run scored in the fourth. Pearson had an RBI double and Heaton singled for Albia’s only hits. Beckwith and Shepard both had RBIs. Albia had five walks to help move runs across the plate.
