The Albia Lady Dee softball team, along with other South Central Conference schools, continued to reap rewards from the past season. The Class 3A state champions landed two team members on the Class 3A first team with pitcher Jena Lawrence and catcher Alex Beard and outfielder Danica Workman making third team All-State.
The teams were selected by the Iowa Softball Coaches Association and released last week.
Joining Lawrence and Beard on the first team was Centerville’s Claire Mathews, a junior utility player.
Earning second team honors from the SCC was Emma Bolton of Clarke.
Workman, a junior, was named to the third team along with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Madysen Wade, a senior, and Emalee Davis, a junior, and Centerville’s Ysaballa Berja, a junior.
Beard and Lawrence are both four-year all-staters. Beard batted .371 with 16 RBI and four homers. Lawrence batted .426 with 20 RBI and a homerun. She was 20-0 on the mound with 182 strikeouts against 30 walks and had an incredible 0.91 earned run average.
Workman, a junior centerfield, batted .422 with seven RBI, three triples and a homer. She was 11 for 11 stealing bases and had just one error in the outfield.
Mathews was Centerville’s regular third baseman until moving to pitch the final few games of the season. She batted .420 with 14 RBI, eight doubles and three home runs. She was 5-4 on the mound with 19 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.07.
Berja played centerfielder and batted .296 with nine RBI and was 12 of 13 stealing bases.
Clarke’s Bolton, a third baseman, batted .392 with 17 RBI and four homeruns. She had a 6-4 pitching record with 84 strikeouts and a 1.79 ERA.
EBF’s Wade was another elite SCC outfielder batting .321, scoring 19 runs and 14 walks with an on base percentage of .424. Davis, a first baseman, batted .416 with 15 RBI and four homeruns.
